India
is planning to promote cruise holidays by developing
special cruise terminals of international standards at
major ports on the western coast. Ports selected include
Kochi, Mumbai and Goa on the west coast. Tuticorin and
Mangalore are also in the running.
According to analysts, the development of cruise
shipping has to be viewed from different angles to get a
correct perspective of the sector. The tourist traffic,
both inbound and outbound, is growing.
A major issue hurting cruise operations in India is the
passenger amenities, which are abysmally poor at all
port terminals. This would be resolved once the
dedicated cruise terminals are built at major ports as
proposed. In the meantime, port authorities should ensue
that minimum facilities are available at the existing
terminals.
Kochi,
has one of the finest natural harbours in the world.
Ancient mariners from Arabia, China, Holland, Britain
and Portugal have all left their mark on this beautiful
island city. Formerly known as Cochin, this tourist
destination is set on a stunning location between the
Arabian Sea and Backwaters.
This harbour city of Kerala with its breathtaking
beauty, will enthrall anyone with its aromatic spices
and abundant availability of fresh bananas and coconuts.
Kochi is also famous for its superb cuisine, cushioned
with an array of mixed spices, seafood and meat dishes
to delight any hungry visitor.
